Over the course of New York fashion week this season, a curious menswear trendlet emerged: rock climbing. Will Fall be the time to book yourself a session at the local climbing wall? Steven Alan looked to Glen Denny’s Yosemite in the Sixties for inspiration, while Band of Outsiders’ Scott Sternberg brushed up on The Stonemasters. And at N.Hoolywood, Daisuke Obana structured his entire show around a climbing motif: He’d been moved by Ansel Adams’ photos of Yosemite from the beginnings of the 20th century, and sent out rope-encircled, pickaxe-toting climbers on a set that resembled a minimal mountain range. Sternberg’s Band show even opened with a troupe of climbers rappelling down from the ceiling on ropes (above). Very Spiderman—but unlike that extravaganza a few blocks north of Sternberg’s West Chelsea show, no climbers were hurt in the making of this program.

Everyone has gone gaga for stripes this spring. Worn with everything from jeans and leggings to navy shorts and red minis, the trend is super-cute and can actually be worn forever. Stripes never go out — they renew as you re-style them. I especially love a red or navy blazer or cardigan worn over them.

Buy it here.

What I love about this American Living Lace Up Henley, available exclusively at JCPenney, is that it’s thoroughly modern. I love the sexiness of the neckline, and the American Living version offers a little bit more flavor than a regular striped top. Because it’s only $29.99, you can pick this up and also grab another top while you’re shopping — and still have cash to spare!

For more tips and trends to get ready for spring, visit our Spring Trends special.

The dos and don’ts of wearing stripes:
- Do not wear stripes on stripes unless you’re 7 years old and under.
- If you opt for horizontal stripes on top, minimize the look with khaki, navy, red or white shorts below or a slim pair of ankle-length pants.
- If you’re nervous about the trend, wear it under a jacket or a solid-colored scarf.
- Don’t go for referee stripes because you will look clowny. Remember that this is meant to be a chic and subtle trend.

PRODUCT DETAILS
The henley takes a more nautical approach to styling with a striped print and lace-up placket.
- 3/4-sleeve
- Cotton
- Tumble dry
- Imported

NEW YORK (AP) — Three high-ranking executives at JPMorgan Chase are expected to leave their jobs this week after a trading blunder cost the bank $2 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

The Journal, citing people familiar with the situation, reported that one of the executives is Ina Drew, who for seven years has run the risk-management division at the bank responsible for the loss.

The other two identified by the newspaper are an executive in charge of the London desk that placed the trades and a managing director on that team. The bank did not immediately return a message from The Associated Press.

The $2 billion loss, disclosed on Thursday by CEO Jamie Dimon, has been an embarrassment for the bank and led lawmakers and critics of the banking industry to call for tougher regulation of Wall Street.

Drew, one of the highest-ranking women on Wall Street, is the bank’s chief investment officer. She was paid $15.5 million last year and almost $16 million the year before, according to a regulatory filing.

The Journal reported that Bruno Iksil, the JPMorgan trader identified as the “London whale” because of the giant bets he placed, was also likely to leave, but the paper reported that it was not clear when that would happen.

On Friday, investors shaved almost 10 percent off JPMorgan’s stock price. Dimon said in a TV interview aired Sunday that he was “dead wrong” when he dismissed concerns about the bank’s trading last month.

“We made a terrible, egregious mistake,” Dimon said in an interview that was taped Friday and aired on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” ”There’s almost no excuse for it.”

Dimon said he did not know the extent of the problem when he said in April that the concerns were a “tempest in a teapot.”

The loss came in the past six weeks. Dimon has said it came from trading in so-called credit derivatives and was designed to hedge against financial risk, not to make a profit for the bank.

Dimon said the bank is open to inquiries from regulators. He has also promised, in an email to the bank’s employees and in a conference call with stock analysts, to get to the bottom of what happened and learn from the mistake.

Dimon told NBC that he supported giving the government the authority to dismantle a failing big bank and wipe out shareholder equity. But he stressed that JPMorgan, the largest bank in the United States, is “very strong.”

A piece of financial regulation known as the Volcker rule would prevent banks from certain kinds of trading for their own profit. Dimon has said the trading involved in the $2 billion loss would not have fallen under the rule.

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., told ABC’s “This Week” that he hopes the final version of the Volcker rule will prevent the type of trading that led to the massive loss at JPMorgan.

Dimon conceded to NBC that the bank “hurt ourselves and our credibility” and expects to “pay the price for that.” Asked what the price should be, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., said that banks will lose their fight to weaken the rule.

“This was not a risk-reducing activity that they engaged in. This increased their risk,” Levin told NBC.

“So we’ve got to be very, very careful that the regulators here are not undermined by this huge effort to weaken the rule by putting in a huge loophole” that includes the trading involved in the JPMorgan loss, he said.

Addressing public anger toward Wall Street, Dimon said he wants a more equitable society and does not mind paying higher taxes. But he said attacking all of business is “very counterproductive.”

Online:

___

A federal trapper, a state game warden and a state wildlife biologist were visiting ranchers in Northern California on Tuesday to notify them that GPS signals showed the gray wolf was in the area, when they stopped to look over a sagebrush hillside with binoculars, said Karen Kovacs, wildlife program manager for the California Department of Fish and Game in Redding, Calif.

While his story has appeared in newspapers and websites around the world, OR-7 has yet to find a mate or even settle down since following his natural inclination to leave his home and head out on his own.

Klavins said he views wolf recovery as a “real-life story of redemption.”

His travels took him down the Cascade Range and across the border into California in December, making him the first wolf in California in more than 80 years, according to the department. Along the way he was photographed in black and white by an automated trailside camera in Oregon. He has since gone back to Oregon and returned to California, making his first visit to Modoc County.

The department also has been contacting ranchers to keep them up to date on the general whereabouts of the wolf, which is protected as a federally endangered species in Western Oregon and California.

The wolf, known as OR-7, left the Imnaha pack in northeastern Oregon in September, shortly before the state put a death warrant on his father and a sibling for killing cattle. That order has been suspended while a challenge by conservation groups is heard in court. OR-7 is a descendant of wolves introduced into the Northern Rockies in the 1990s, and represents the westernmost expansion of a regional population that now tops 1,650.

The wolf was hanging out with three coyotes, and appeared curious about the people watching him. But he kept his distance, about 100 yards, Kovacs said.

Kovacs said state biologists have been keeping close tabs on OR-7, with the help of his GPS collar, which is visible in one of the photos taken by Shinn.

“We joked that it only seems right that the world’s most famous wolf makes an appearance in California and the paparazzi come out,” said Rob Klavins of the conservation group Oregon Wild, which held a contest for children around the world to name the wolf and came up with Journey.

California Department of Fish and Game, http://1.usa.gov/IWs2pL

The sighting happened on private land in Modoc County, the sparsely settled northeastern corner of California.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A young male wolf from Oregon that has won worldwide fame while trekking across mountains, deserts and highways looking for a mate has had what appears to be his first close encounter with people, and got his picture taken, to boot.

“Most people have been appreciative,” Kovacs said. “We want to make sure we are doing our part to protect this animal so that it isn’t mistaken for a coyote” and killed.

Biologists have visited areas the wolf frequented after he left and found a track in the dirt in Northern California’s Shasta County. They know he has fed on the carcasses of deer, dug up the burrows of ground squirrels, and fed from livestock carcasses left out by a rancher. But as of yet, there are no reports he has killed any livestock.

California wildlife biologist Richard Shinn snapped a photo, the first shot of the animal in color, and the department posted it on its website.

“He has managed to stay off the radar as far as people getting visuals of this critter,” she said. “His healthy distance has probably served him well up to this point.”

“This tells us how far we have come,” he said. “His brother’s story tells us how far we have to go. He was illegally shot in Idaho.”

“There, all of a sudden, out pops a head, and there he is,” she said. “He appeared very healthy.”

Apropos of a seventies-inflected season, designers—especially those showing in Paris—covered dresses, accessories, and jewelry with dangling wisps, often in evening-friendly black. At Chanel (top left and center), Karl Lagerfeld hung feathers off hair clips and showed collarbone-skimming fringed earrings with tufted dresses. At Louis Vuitton (top right), Marc Jacobs kept his earrings ultra-long, too. At Balenciaga (bottom right), Nicolas Ghesquière covered tough sandals to the ankle with hairlike strands, and for Sacai (bottom center), Chitose Abe ornamented Louboutins with feathered straps. At Rick Owens (bottom left), the trend went in a different direction—literally. Instead of hanging down, his fringe tufted up, at the tips of floral accents on spring wedges.

Some arena-playing rock bands travel less than young London’s designers. Those blessed by the British Fashion Council as part of the roving London Showrooms coterie have been on a whistle-stop world tour of late, hitting Paris, Hong Kong, L.A., and now, finally, New York, where they set up shop this morning to show their Spring wares to U.S.-based editors and buyers. To judge from the group assembled—including James Long, Thomas Tait, J.W. Anderson, Holly Fulton, Louise Gray, Marios Schwab, and milliner Nasir Mazhar—the journey may have tired them, but it didn’t dampen their enthusiasm. Almost every designer queried revealed he or she had picked up international stockists along the way; among the city’s reigning favorites, Long and Anderson drew the most attention, but even the youngest in the crowd can now boast increased U.S. visibility. Central Saint Martins grad Simone Rocha, who showed her first solo outing this Spring after a few seasons under the umbrella of Fashion East, now sells her vintage-lace dresses, fluoro tulle sheer layering skirts, and plastic raincoats at Opening Ceremony. Craig Lawrence, a 2011 NEWGEN winner who showed loose-weave knits and cropped, elasticized jumpers, is at several Henry Beguelin locations. Interested buyers were swarming, suggesting more reach is at hand for many present.

New categories and techniques were on display, too. Jeweler and sculptor Jordan Askill introduced pieces with ethical amethyst, sourced from a mine in Zambia, which he worked into silver pieces with his trademark swallows (below left). (A giant swallow cuff, which opened to reveal a hidden compartment, blurred the line between his two pursuits.) Also in the new collection were his first fine-jewelry pieces, with tiny diamonds surrounding a faceted, hand-carved swallow pendant. Holly Fulton had begun working with mother-of-pearl for accessories and real seashells for statement-making jackets; the trick, she confided, is finding shells of uniform shape. Tait, whose finely wrought, voluminous pieces suggest Couture shapes, had a surprising new footwear collaboration: a set of crisscrossed trainers he designed with Nike. (He was wearing a pair himself, as was a model; he had no plans to produce them, he revealed, but persistent interest on the part of buyers may change all that.) And Sibling’s Cozette McCreery was on hand to show off her knitwear label’s first official women’s line, Sister by Sibling. Women had been ordering small men’s sizes for so long, she said, that she and her co-designers, Sid Bryan and Joe Bates, decided finally to cut and knit for them. They were cropped neon and sequin leopard tops (left) and two complementary, sweatshirt-style sweaters emblazoned with the words LOVE and HATE. They’d sold, she said, about evenly, though she expected more interest in LOVE. Call it a knitted insight into the human race.
